Based in Aiken, South Carolina, Sunhill Sporthorses combines compassionate horsemanship with dedicated development. Led by Jillian Newman, our program emphasizes correct fundamentals, clear communication, and horse-first training tailored to every stage of equine and rider growth.
A lifetime dedicated to horsemanship
Jillian Newman has been riding since the age of five and has spent her entire life immersed in the equestrian industry. Prior to establishing Sunhill Sporthorses on the East Coast, she spent years working as an FEI 4* groom, developing an acute eye for top-tier horse care and management, and riding under world-class professionals on both coasts. Jillian graduated from Virginia Tech, earning her Bachelor's of Environmental Policy and riding on the Eventing team at Tech. A seasoned 2* eventer, Pony Club alumnus, and USDF bronze medalist, Jillian actively pursues continuous education by collaborating regularly with premier trainers across multiple disciplines to bring the best modern training practices home to Aiken.
Our horse-first training philosophy
At Sunhill Sporthorses, our approach is built on putting the horse’s physical and mental well-being first. We prioritize classical flatwork and establishing a correct, harmonious connection, ensuring that every horse learns through trust, patience, and clear communication. While we maintain a competitive standard for the show ring, our focus never wavers from solid basics and positive work sessions, creating confident, happy equine partners that truly enjoy their work.
Developing future champions and lasting partnerships
From starting young sporthorses to navigating specialized rehabilitation or campaigns for sale, our program produces proven results. Jillian has successfully produced her own horses to the upper levels of eventing and is currently progressing toward FEI levels in dressage. Over the years, she has started numerous young horses who have gone on to enjoy long, impressive athletic careers, as well as matched countless sale horses with forever partners where they continue to thrive.
